Theatre Explorations and Contact Improvisation
Dance-theatre mixes elements of dance and creative movement with interpretation and theatre. The space around the performer, the body and its feelings, are equally participating into a unique, creative expression.
This set of classes aims at exploring the basics elements of dance-theatre in a light-heartened and enjoyable way. Each class will be focused on a different thematic. Participants are free to attend all of them, but also one, or a few.
Contact Improvisation is a type of explorative dance which involves physical contact, giving and receiving weight to your partner and enabling the flow of movement between at least two bodies in all its potential. As Steve Paxton defined it, “the exigencies of the form dictate a mode of movement which is relaxed, constantly aware and prepared, and onflowing. As a basic focus, the dancers remain in physical touch, mutually supportive and innovative, meditating upon the physical laws relating to their masses: gravity, momentum, inertia, and friction. They do not strive to achieve results, but rather, to meet the constantly changing physical reality with appropriate placement and energy”. The participants will explore weight and lightness, distance and proximity and other spacial relations and the transformation of gravity into dance. The course will expand and develop the participant’s knowledge, awareness and capacities of their bodies. No previous experience is required.
